The Nilam program (Program Nilam) is a nationwide literacy initiative in Malaysian schools, traditionally using physical reading logbooks. In recent years, digital copies, templates, and updated guides have been shared widely on Scribd, a subscription-based document-sharing platform. This paper investigates how the availability of updated Nilam-related documents on Scribd has affected teacher and student access, program fidelity, and equity. Using content analysis of 50 updated documents uploaded between 2020–2025 and surveys with 30 Malaysian secondary school teachers, we find that while Scribd improves access to updated forms and creative reading response templates, it also introduces issues of version control, unofficial modifications, and paywall barriers. We recommend that the Ministry of Education establish a central open repository for Nilam materials to complement existing sharing behaviors.

In Malaysia, NILAM is a widely recognised acronym for (roughly "Core Knowledge, Reading Practice"). It is a national reading programme, first introduced by the Ministry of Education in 1999, designed to cultivate a lifelong love of reading among students. It was later updated to NILAM Tambah Baik (NILAM Enhanced) in 2017 and NILAM Nafas Baru (NILAM New Breath) around 2020, which included a greater focus on digital reading materials. In 2023, the program was further upgraded with the Advance Integrated NILAM System (AINS) , a mobile app that allows students to log their reading anywhere.
